Why the events did not draw the registrations that we expected is tough to say, but we have a few thoughts. Firstly, we think our specific type of event does not translate well to a long weekend setting. Teton con has done so well in the past because it blends the location so well with the gaming, guests have plenty of time to get their fill of both. In a weekend setting the gaming would likely take priority making the destination a bit of an afterthought. In such a situation the elevated cost of being in such a great destination may not seem worthwhile. Secondly, we think Vegas was not a big draw for the strategy gaming crowd. We did our best to point out everything Vegas has to offer, but ultimately we could not get people excited. Thirdly, and most surprising to us, we could not deflect attention away from Teton Con. All the interested guests, partners and special guests seem most interested in attending or supporting Teton Con, which has maintained strong reservations despite all of our efforts in directing attention to Vegas and AGF.
With the facts spelled out, we have decided to refocus our efforts on putting on a rockstar Teton Con 2015, which is already shaping up to be the best Teton Con yet. We will likely run a second event, but will go about it entirely different than the past. Our growth and connection with past and future guests has been astounding over the past few months. We have tripled our facebook likes and our website traffic is double any previous period. We plan on using that connection to get feedback from the community about where and when another event might take form. Future guests, will get unique insight and participation in any future event plans. Keep checking in to help create the next Icarus Tours events.
Lastly, I would like to ensure our guests and fans, that this cancellation was a choice about ensuring that we put on quality events and not a concern over financial solvency. We did suffer a financial loss in canceling the events, but in no way is Icarus Tours in a tenuous financial position. In many ways it puts us in a much better situation to support Teton Con the way it deserves. We encourage you to leave your thoughts about what you liked/disliked about the Vegas Con and AGF events.
