Vegas Price Change

It has always been important to me that Icarus Tours run as a business.  One important quality of a business is that it makes money, businesses that don’t make money are called hobbies.  The gaming industry is not a place to get rich quick, for all the hours and work I put into Icarus Tours, I would make more money by just working for minimum wage.  It is the other qualities of a business that are important to me.  Since a business makes money, it develops its own inertia and can be sold or transferred, unlike most hobbies.  I intend to build something long lasting that will truly “change the way gamers vacation”, and treating that endeavor to the rigors of a hobby would most likely have doomed it from the start.

When we start planning for a new event we have very little to go off of for attendance and costs.  Very few other gaming vacations exist and we often have to plan pricing up to a year in advance.  A number of things has worked together to allow us to dramatically drop the price of Vegas Con.  Firstly, the support we are seeing from the community is fantastic, and greatly increased over past years.  This is shaping up to make a very successful Vegas Con.  Secondly, we have recently renegotiated our contract with Monte Carlo, which has allowed us to cut our costs.  Third, as we get closer to the event our overhead costs have been lower than expected.  All of this has added up to a situation in which we could substantially drop the price of Vegas Con.  Icarus Tours is still in the growth phase of business and we believe that by lowering the price we can make it accessible to more guests, which is in our long term interest.

The other change is making the dinner show optional.  This is the one element that came in above our budget.  The price of the tickets if you reserved them online is about $70 (if you include all the fees and taxes) and our price is about $55 to $60 dollars depending on the group size.  Since the our price break is not substantially lower than retail , we've decided to offer this show as an “add-on adventure”, similar to many things at Teton Con.  As with all of our add-on adventures we will offer it at cost to our attendees.  We will solicit interest and book the show in September.

If you have already registered for Vegas Con, you do not need to do anything, your final invoice will show the updated cost.  With the change in price hot on the heels of the $50 off promotion, we have decided to extend the promotion until July 25th to allow people more time to plan.  The promotion is valid with the new price!
